Stages follow your Fishing skill.

Coordinates are buttons. Click one to copy a /way Zone x y Name command, paste it in chat, and click the link it prints to drop a pin on your map. Turn the command on once: with EllesmereUI type /eui, open QoL, find the Waypoint Command section and tick Enable /way Command. Enhance QoL has the same switch among its slash commands and takes /way x y for your current zone. Every coordinate here comes from Questie's own database for this client.

Stage 0 · Fishing to 75

One boat trip from Auberdine

Rut'theran Village and Darnassus, about 20 minutes. Lifts both caps and stocks every low recipe.

Train

  • Androl Oakhand, Rut'theran shore left of the boat landing : Journeyman Fishing. Cap becomes 150.
  • Alegorn, Darnassus Craftsmen's Terrace (portal from Rut'theran): learn Brilliant Smallfish. Cook to 50, then on the same visit Journeyman Cooking, Longjaw Mud Snapper and Rainbow Fin Albacore.
  • Cooking 40 to 50: fish Darnassus water for Brilliant Smallfish and Longjaw Mud Snapper and cook them. Fifteen minutes.
  • While at Androl, learn the Fish Bowl camp item if you skipped it at Fishing 20: 1 Raw Brilliant Smallfish and 1 Empty Vial, +8% stats for everyone at your campfire.

Stage 1 · Fishing 75 to 110

Darkshore

Cooking 50 to 100. Water rated 75, so everything bites without a lure.

Water

  • Coast: Slitherskin Mackerel, Rainbow Fin Albacore, Longjaw Mud Snapper, Bristle Whisker Catfish, plus Oily Blackmouth and Firefin Snapper pools.
  • Inland (Cliffspring River, the ponds): Mud Snapper, Catfish, Sagefish schools. Rare fish come only from pools, so recast if the bobber misses one.
  • Coastal Frenzy fish swim along the shore, level 14 to 16. Kill them for Soft Frenzy Flesh.

Cook

  • 50 to 90: Fillet of Frenzy +5 fishing, +5% XP from Soft Frenzy Flesh, or Mud Snapper and Albacore, whichever stack is bigger.
  • 80 to 120: Smoked Sagefish from the inland schools.
  • 90 to 130: Clam Chowder, 1 Clam Meat and 1 Ice Cold Milk. Clam Meat comes from Giant Clams off the Greymist murlocs on the coast, 33c each on the AH. Milk from any innkeeper.
  • At 100: learn Bristle Whisker Catfish from the trainer. Carries you to 150.

  • Laird, inside the Auberdine inn : Recipe: Fillet of Frenzy 3s 78c.
  • Heldan Galesong, on the beach south of Auberdine, west of Ameth'Aran : Recipe: Clam Chowder, and for later Recipe: Mithril Head Trout and Recipe: Rockscale Cod at 22s each. No seller again until Menethil.
Gold on the side. Oily Blackmouth sold for 47c and Firefin Snapper for 70c each on 8 Nov. Alchemists buy them for oils. Bank them, do not cook them.

Ashenvale

Cooking 100 to 150, levels 28 to 35. You quest here anyway. Water rated 150, so cast with Nightcrawlers until your skill catches up.

Water

  • Mystral Lake, right below Silverwind Refuge , Lake Falathim in the west , and Iris Lake east of Astranaar: Bristle Whisker Catfish, Mud Snapper, Sagefish schools.
  • Zoram Strand coast by the Blackfathom entrance : Albacore, Firefin and Oily pools. Horde camp at the north end, fish the south.

Cook

  • 100 to 150: Bristle Whisker Catfish +8 fishing, +5% XP. Orange to 140, yellow to 160.
  • Fillers if the catfish run dry: Smoked Sagefish, Clam Chowder.
  • At Cooking 125: buy the Expert Cookbook. Cap becomes 225.
  • At Fishing 125 and level 20: Expert Fishing, The Bass and You. Old Man Heming sells it in Booty Bay. Buy it on the AH instead, 1g 28s on 8 Nov with 37 listed. Cap becomes 225.

Wetlands, then Arathi and Hillsbrad

Cooking 150 to 200, levels 30 to 38. Boat from Auberdine to Menethil Harbor.

Water

  • Wetlands (rated 150): Catfish, Albacore, Mud Snapper, Sagefish, Firefin and Oily pools.
  • Arathi Highlands inland lakes (rated 150): Mithril Head Trout, Catfish, Greater Sagefish schools. The coast there is rated 250, leave it.
  • Hillsbrad lakes (rated 150): Greater Sagefish, Catfish, pools.
  • With Bright Baubles (+75) you can land Rockscale Cod on the Desolace or Dustwallow coast (rated 225) from skill 150.

Cook

  • 150 to 175: Catfish, green and slow. Quicker: Curiously Tasty Omelet from Raptor Eggs, recipe from Kendor Kabonka in Stormwind's Old Town.
  • 175 to 225: Mithril Head Trout and Rockscale Cod +12 fishing, +5% XP. Both recipes already in your bag from Heldan.
  • 175 alternative: Sagefish Delight from Greater Sagefish, recipe from Fyldan in Darnassus or Kelsey Yance in Booty Bay, 50s.

  • Fishing 225: Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme, on his island in Dustwallow Marsh . Four fish, each only while on the quest: Feralas Ahi, Misty Reed Mahi Mahi (Swamp of Sorrows), Sar'theris Striker (Desolace coast), Savage Coast Blue Sailfin (Stranglethorn).
  • Cooking 225: I Know a Guy from Daryl Riknussun in Ironforge , then Clamlette Surprise: 12 Giant Egg, 10 Zesty Clam Meat, 20 Alterac Swiss to Dirge Quikcleave in Gadgetzan .

Cook

  • 225 to 275: Spotted Yellowtail (Tanaris and Desolace coast) or Filet of Redgill (Feralas).
  • 250 to 300: Poached Sunscale Salmon and Nightfin Soup, both from Feralas inland water. Nightfin at night, Sunscale by day.

  • Field Guide from Lady Anacondra. Skinning 140, tracks beasts.
  • Fish inside: the water in the caverns and at the entrance gives Deviate Fish, as do the Lushwater Oasis beside the entrance and the other Barrens oases. Deviate Fish cook into Savory Deviate Delight (Cooking 85), the pirate and ninja food. The recipe is a rare drop from any Barrens mob, 1g 25s on the AH on 8 Nov. The cooked dish sold at 2s 98c each with over a thousand listed.

  • Blueprint: Fishing Rack from Gelihast. Fishing 140 to build: 2 Simple Wood, 1 Crystal Vial, 2 Raw Mithril Head Trout. An hour of uncommon fish plus free lures at your campfire. Beta loot data put the drop under 1%, so it is a lucky roll, not a farm.

Fishing Hut

Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza

The weekly contest in Booty Bay. Every Sunday, 2 to 4 PM Pacific. Forever runs it region-wide, so the race is against the whole US region, not one realm.

How it works

  • Riggle Bassbait in Booty Bay opens the contest with a zone-wide shout at 2 PM Pacific. US Forever realms keep Pacific time.
  • Schools of Tastyfish appear only during the window, along the Stranglethorn coast outside Booty Bay, never inland. A pool gives 2 to 5 casts, then respawns about 6 minutes later somewhere else.
  • Turn in 40 Speckled Tastyfish to Riggle Bassbait. In Forever the first 50 players across the region complete Master Angler, instead of the first per realm.
  • Jang and the Fishbot 5000 stay in Booty Bay for an hour after it ends. Tastyfish and the rare fish do not expire, so leftovers carry to next Sunday.

Rewards

  • Master Angler (first 50): choice of Arcanite Fishing Pole, +35 fishing, the best pole in the game, or Hook of the Master Angler, a trinket that turns you into a fish. Forever also hands out an Extravagant Extravaganza Coin; what it buys is not documented yet.
  • Rare fish caught from the pools during the event, turned in to the Fishbot 5000: Keefer's Angelfish gives the Lucky Fishing Hat (+5 fishing), Brownell's Blue Striped Racer gives Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots, Dezian Queenfish gives the High Test Eternium Fishing Line. Anyone can win these, no placing needed.
  • Spare Tastyfish sell to Jang for 23s per 5.

Before you go

  • Stranglethorn is level 30 to 45. Pirates, raptors and a level 47 elite giant patrol the beaches. Below 35 bring a friend and stay in the shallows.
  • Skill: the pools sit in 150-rated water in the north and 225 at the Cape. Journeyman with Nightcrawlers (+50) and a Strong Fishing Pole (+5) reaches the northern pools; Bright Baubles (+75) open the whole coast.
  • Getting there from Kalimdor: boat Auberdine to Menethil, fly or run to Ironforge, tram to Stormwind, then the road south through Duskwood into Stranglethorn. Pick up the Booty Bay flight path once, and later Sundays are one flight.
  • Mount up the moment a pool empties and move to the next one. The southeast coast has fewer mobs and more players, the west coast the reverse.
